# Projects

A <mark style="color:$success;">**Project**</mark> is a specific game, inclusive of all <mark style="color:$success;">**Templates**</mark> (card & component designs) and <mark style="color:$success;">**Decks**</mark>.

When you log into *Cardstock Studio*, you will be presented with your Projects, with the most recently viewed on the top left.

Click a Project card to open it.

Demo projects are shown by default. To disable those, visit the App Settings in the [User Settings](/docs/projects/user-settings.md) and toggle on *Hide demo projects*.

## Creating a Project

Each project must have a unique name.

## Favorite a Project

You can filter to view only favorites.

## Deleting a Project

Right click the Project card and select "Delete" to delete the project. When a Project is deleted, it is not gone forever — you can still restore it by clicking the "Deleted" area. There, you can also delete the project forever, which does delete it fully.

## Cloud vs Local Projects

These can be accessed on any computer when you log in.

### Switching to Local Mode

Visit the *Project Settings* page when viewing a cloud project to switch to local mode. You will be prompted to choose a folder where your project will live, and all neccesary files which are actively being used by templates will be downloaded to that folder.

Once you have switched, all changes will only be saved in the local files.

### Switching to Cloud Mode

You can move a local project back to the cloud by visiting *Project Settings* when viewing a local project. When switching, all files will be uploaded to the cloud, and new folders will be created in the cloud if needed.

Once you have switched, all changes will only be saved in the cloud, and you can delete your local project folder if you wish.

### Web App vs Desktop App

Both the Web App and the Desktop App can create and edit cloud projects. Local projects are handled differently.

When using the Web App, local projects are registered in the cloud — along with any templates. But the data contained is kept locally.

When using the Desktop App, local projects are held locally and are not registered in the cloud.

### Private Projects

Studio users can create **Private Projects** in the desktop app. These projects have no data stored in the cloud — not even the project is registered, the data is entirely offline.&#x20;

Private Projects can be moved to the cloud, and local projects can be converted to private, which would remove their data from the cloud.
